At just 23, Winston Yellen (the man behind Night Beds) pens poetic anecdotes of love and loss that wouldn’t look out of place next to the likes of Jeff Buckley or Bon Iver in your record collection and from just a couple of listens of Country Sleep, the first full length album released on Dead Oceans, upbeat ‘Ramona’ stands out as a sure fire hit. Filled with the low-key acoustic swing, the album panders to Yellen’s ‘woe is me’ outlook with beautiful lyrical charm.

With the world seemingly on Yellen’s young shoulders, it is easy to get swept up in the melancholy of songs like ‘Even If We Try’ and the short but sweet ‘Was I For You’, where Yellen’s wistful harmonies will melt your heart to a backdrop of twinkly loveliness.
