This is a Charity event in aid of United Playground, a small Brighton-based organisation that sends volunteers to a variety of projects across Africa. This includes orphanages, hospitals, construction projects and many other types of work. They also fundraise to support children and families. Currently, United Playground is helping to build an orphanage in the village of Denu, on the coast of Ghana. This orphanage, ‘Amenuveve’, will be able to provide care for special needs children who are often not catered for at other orphanages.
United Playground founder, Ann Fletcher said
“Last year, our fundraising efforts paid for the large concrete platform that the schoolrooms will be built on. However, there is still a long way to go. This year, we want to complete some of the houses that the children will live in with their house mothers. As well as building materials we need to pay for the builders, carpenters and electricians.
The Blunter Brothers cover all the hits from artists such as James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Curtis Mayfield, The Average White Band and many more.
Originally from Sussex, The band was formed way back in 1989 and has become established as one of the premiere ‘Revue’ acts in the country.
Dave Baxter, manager of the Blunter Brothers, said
“The band is really looking forward to playing at this great venue. We know that there are lots of Funky people in Brighton and this is a great chance to see an old school band playing Classic Funk the way it used to be. We feel that United Playground is doing great things and we’re proud to be supporting them too”.
Hollie Farris (Mr James Brown’s World famous trumpeter/bandleader) said about the band “When I started listening to the tracks, I thought it was a recording of us 20 years ago! You guys really nailed it. Good, tight band”.
