Created in 2007 by Nicolas Fromageau, co-founder of electronic shoegazers M83, French electronic band Team Ghost was always going to be something special. Creating a blend of woozy synths and a thought provoking noise that washes over your soul, the band weave delicate, simulated textures with a forceful, darker distortion that somewhat echo the caustic sound of Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine.
TG member Benoît de Villeneuve’s passion for analogue synthesisers is really what makes the whole experience of listening to Team Ghost that bit-more intense. With the Prophet 05, the Juno 60 and Roland SH5 helping to manipulate the band’s sound… techy geeks will be in synthesizer heaven with their plethora of kit.
Their first two EP’s were released in 2010. ‘You Never Did Anything Wrong To Me’ and ‘Celebrate What You Can’t See’ both met with critical acclaim and the band have not only expanded into a five-piece but toured extensively with Crystal Castles. The are set to release their new EP ‘Curtains’ on February 25th which follow last year’s ‘Dead Film Star’ EP release.
If you are yet to hear of Team Ghost then you might have heard M83’s amazing ‘Midnight City’ which was flung into the glare of the mainstream by the TV series ‘Made in Chelsea’ but listening to Team Ghost’s remix you can appreciate a somewhat lower key approach compared to the original.
The groups debut album ‘Rituals’ is released March 18th via French label wSphere. Why not come along to The Blind Tiger and see what all the fuss is about for yourself!
