Die! Die! Die!

03/02/2013 By David Ma

Die!Die!Die!New Zealand has been in the limelight of late due to a certain film. Not as well known is a band who have released a few records and can provide an energetic live performance. If you prefer your gigs to show a bit of sweat, endless guitar thrashing, boundless energy and a concoction of punk, noise pop, grunge, rock and indie all thrown in, with a dose of ranting vocals… you can’t go wrong with Kiwi rockers, Die! Die! Die! They do have their softer side with ‘Sideways Here They Come’. And if that’s too quiet for you, then ‘We Built Our Own Oppressors’ will make amends. With their fourth album, Harmony, released last year, expect all of the above and much more.

I first caught eye of them in 2011, attracted by their band name alone listed in The Great Escape programme. For some strange reason, this reminded me of 90’s British band ‘The Cooper Temper Clause’, although I’ve never known why to this day. It was a packed out afternoon show and memorable for frontman and guitarist Andrew Wilson coming off stage with his mic and performing in the crowd. This was certainly one of my highlights of that weekend.

If you’ve listened to their songs, but have never seen them live, then you’ve already missed half the experience. Having witnessed them previously at The Hope and shortly after at The Prince Albert, this is a great opportunity to catch them back in Brighton, once again in intimate settings. If you’re new to this band, you’re in for a treat. They say Thursday is the new Friday. If that’s the case, then why not start your weekend at the Green Door Store.
